  • Kasimasi 02 - The Girl Realises She’s A Girl

Posted on June 30th, 2006 by retsgip - 183 Views

I decided to roll up my sleeves and conquer this show like a woman. Although I still don’t like how the female characters are drawn, the content is okay. Okay enough that i’m willing to spend at least a little bit of my time writing about it. I tend to have a habit of enjoying weird girly animes(although i’m not exactly sure what genre this one falls under), but lets just hope I can keep hold of at least a portion of my masculinity throughout the course of my blogging this anime.

Well now that that’s off my chest…

Basically this whole episode is about Hazumu trying to “fit in” to her (I’ll call him her now since well, he’s a she) new gender. Theres some laughs and some seriousness mixed in together to make it an okay episode.

After Hazumu is visited by her friends at the doctor’s office, she heads home to the loving embrace of the mother, who now claims she always wanted a daughter (poor kid). And of course, Dad instantly becomes #1 male sexual preditor in the show. Although it seems reallllly strange to me, I guess it offers some comedic breaks in the story. Props to Mom for laying the smackdown.

Hazumu changes for school, into a *gasp* girl outfit, which of course causes quite a response from her friends. Classic.

Since Hazumu was basically created by aliens, there’s an insane amount of interviewers outside the house when she tries to leave. Tomari saves Hazumu by using her super human speed and they bust through the crowd together and try to make a break for it.

Namiko-sensei hears their plea, the teacher appears who: “Without a boyfriend for 35 years, In the name of education, will protect her students with her life!” Or…..she can just be thrown into another hole like in the last episode. It was such a dramatic entrance too, I ALMOST thought she’d power up or something but oh well.

At least they made it to school with relative ease. Of course, all the guys are gawking at Hazumu. Tamari to the rescue again. UH OH! Time to change for P.E. oh the horror?! Tamari is super shy and wont change in front of Hazumu. I wonder why….This is when Tamari starts getting depressed because the Hazumu she once knew is different. It’ll be a tough road ahead of her for sure. A perfect scene comes when Hazumu and Asuta start talking on the roof. Somehow they get on the topic of breasts and Hazumu offers to show him hers but Tamari does some Ninja-leaping-kungfu-kick-of-death to Asuta’s neck. This whole scene on the roof I thought was pretty funny.

It also appears that Hazumu and Yasuna Kamiizumi are still on weird terms. I sense something brewing though. Well she runs off leaving Hazumu with Tamari so where do they go???? To get panties. Lucky Poor Asuta. You get a bit of fanservice when Tamari shows Hazumu how to put on a bra, so grats to whoever was waiting for that. Tamari leaves early because she has problems with Hazumu’s gender change and begins to reflect. She remembers the past when she used to protect Hazumu and decides she wants to protect her still so she runs back to save Hazumu.

This scene was about as touching as you get for this anime so far. Not bad, but it didn’t necessarily move me or anything.

Hazumu goes inside to find that the aliens are living with her. Looks like trouble…

I’d say this episode was better than the first one.  It looks like there’s some tension brewing between a few of the characters now that Hazumu is no longer a male.  Tamari is having an especially hard time since she OBVIOUSLY likes Hazumu and now that she’s a she, Tamari feels weird acting on her feelings.  The comedy in this episode was decent, I mean, its not just a comedic anime.  It is also a drama, so seeing any bit of relief comedy is good.

Sometimes the scenes seem a little forced or way too planned.  I have a feeling that in this anime, the wind will always blow at the right time to add drama, it will rain when characters are sad, etc etc etc.  Other than some of its predictability, this anime isnt THAT bad. So far, at least, worth watching once to pass any spare time you may have.
