Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu - The Meloncholy of Suzumiya Haruhi VI

    Rating: 9.8

Once again, this anime never ceases to amaze me as it gives birth (yes, from the womb) to so many episodes that are well drawn, well written, with such superb voice acting and use of sound. This wasn’t my favorite episode, but it sure as hell didn’t disappoint me. (Not one shot of Tsuruya-san, those selfish bastards)

Poor Kyon, this guy never gets a break does he? Sometimes I feel bad for him and all that he’s been through, yet on the other hand, I’m extremely jealous. Where was SOS Brigade when I was in high school, huh???!? Damn…

I absolutely love the description Kyon gives to Taniguchi about why he and Nagato were makin’ babies in the classroom after hours the other day. Although the story seemed somewhat believable (I’d probably believe it), Taniguchi being the quasi-perv that he is would never believe such a thing. At least he tried, lol. Busted (Kyon gets busted a lot this episode). They could have suck Tsuruya in right here and given her at least 2 seconds of screen time, but nooooo, I guess she wasn’t really in the story yet according to the timeline.

Side Note: I really enjoyed Taniguchi and Kyon’s “who am I” talk. Kyon seems to be finding where he fits into the big picture. But the best part was how free they talk with eachother. There’s a good amount of wit and I found myself chuckling throughout their entire conversation. It made me finally appreciated Taniguchi’s character.

“Stay away from me. I’ll catch Suzumiya.”-Taniguchi

I can’t believe they built up my hopes and dreams of seeing Mikuru in Kitty ears, Nurse, or Queen outfit, then never delivered. I love Kyon’s response when Haruhi asked him what Mikuru should wear next. He was standing there dazed, wondering what it would be like to see Mikuru in such outfits, and Haruhi was sitting there staring right at him. Busted!suzumiya_haruhi14-3.JPG
I’m not sure why Kyon decided it’d be a good idea to “relieve himself” using Mikuru pics look at pictures of Mikuru while she’s still in the room, I guess he couldn’t resist any longer. Mikuru just happened to catch him closing the folder. Busted! Here’s a nice zoomed in shot of Mikuru’s boobs for all the fanboys, enjoy:

And….When Mikuru tried to see what Kyon was looking at, Haruhi came in while they were “flirting.” Busted! (poor Kyon. Give him a break)

The dream/closed space scene wasn’t horrible, although I wish there was more interaction between Haruhi and Kyon. I mean c’mon, they’re in closed space together…alone. Do you know how much money some of the viewers would pay to wake up in a dream with Haruhi, quite a lot I’d say. Quite a lot. But in any case, she’s just too damn happy to see Aliens and not focusing enough on running. Although, I love how Kyon looks like he’s thinking, “omg we’re screwed,” and Haruhi looks like she’s thinking, “omg this is awesome!”

The scene in the baseball diamond was kinda cheesy. I actually laughed out loud at how ridiculous the music was in the background. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t meant to be humorous but I just found it a little over the top. What I did enjoy though, from an artistic viewpoint, were the black and white flashbacks during this scene. Btw Kyon, nice pickup line! *thumbs up*

I almost fell out of my chair watching Kyon’s reaction after he woke up and realized what just happened in his dream. I’d probably be more inclined to roll around whacking my pillow everywhere really fast (Rob Gordon does this in High Fidelity when thinking about his ex-girlfriend in bed). Oh yeah, bonus points to Kyon for mentioning Freud.

What a cute little scene they threw in here of Kyon complimenting Haruhi on her ponytail. I heard that in the volumes, she actually removes her ponytail after Kyon comments on it, but I guess they wanted to leave us with higher hopes that Kyon and Haruhi might end up together. Anyways, I was bored of her hair and liked a lot better when it was longer and crazier.

There’s a nice “wrap-up” scene through the ending credits which at the end of I shed a tear. I’m a “grown-ass-man” and I shed a tear. I think I’m losing my edge. I should go do some pushups to redeem my manhood.

Oh, and guess who walked in when Kyon was flirting with Mikuru. BUSTED! It looks as though Haruhi took her ponytail out afterall, just not in response to Kyon’s commented.

Side Note: Remember, this episode is actually the 6th according to Haruhi, which means it’s not even halfway through the series yet in terms of plot. I found it weird that Mikuru was unusually jumpy at first, but then I realized she still has to get used to being in the SOS Brigade. If you watch episode 9, Someday in the Rain, you can tell how much she’s matured since this episode. Although, not having seen Mikuru so jumpy for awhile made it funny again. You’ll also notice that Nagato shows signs of being more normal in this episode, which seems to continue on through the later ones.

When the episode finally ended, I was left with somewhat of an empty feeling in my gut. It felt the same as when I finish a book that I had become particularly attached to, and end up missing the characters right away. Was it really over?! I wanted more! Fourteen episodes was just too damn short. There has been talk of more episodes next season, but in all honesty I hope they don’t. In my experience, sequals never match up to the original, and I wan’t to always keep this anime high on my list of favorites.

Overall, the ending wasn’t super good, but it did the job. I didn’t spoil myself by reading the novels so I felt a little more touched by some of the scenes than most would, but I have problems with how it ended.

This truely was a great series.

Some things I noticed while rewatching:

-There were no blatant homosexual tendancies from Itsuki. Thanks god for that. There has been so much talk about how much he loves Kyon. I guess it’s pretty weird how close his face gets to Kyon’s sometimes….Yes indeed. If you listen to how Kyon introduces him at the beginning it’s very unenthusiastic compared to Mikuru or even Nagato.

-Grats to Itsuki for not confusing me this episode.

-Hooray for little sister action! There were some pretty “cute”(yes fine, I’ll addmit she’s cute) scenes of Kyon and her in this episode. She even has what I call a “firecracker” which is one of those pigtails that stick up from somewhere on kid’s heads. At least it wasn’t as bad(bad meaning cute I guess) as Remote Island Syndrome.

-Yuki says: “Another visit to the library would…” I’m gonna fill in the blanks with “be nice.” She also says she’ll protect him from now on at the end. Does she maybe have “lovelove” feelings for him? So..that makes three girls and a guy that like Kyon. Cleverly disguised Harem anime????? I dunno!

-Running in closed space looks more real than any anime I’ve seen thus far. Their arms aren’t hanging loose behind them or anything crazy-weird like that.

-Kyon’s well delivered line and hastey kiss seem strange to me. Was he kissing her to get out of closed space, or was it because he finally realized he has feelings for her. I kind of accepted it as if he had feelings but now I dont know. Pretty nice 1st person view of going in for the kill.

-Kyon walks by a train at some point. Is this the same track which him and Haruhi walk across in the previous episode?

“Saraba Haruhi. Forever.” -Kyon, episode 2, 00:13:10
