I’m taking this straight from a thread that me and Darkshaunz have going on a private forum. I figured it was relevant so…here it is. I take no credit for any pictures used in this blog, they were found on random sites. There could also be a few spoilers so view at your own risk.

    1) Spike Spiegel - Cowboy Bebop

This anime was my very first true love. I was obsessed with it for a long time. A friend of mine gave me all the episodes on some cd’s after I said I liked it on cartoon network(this is like 5 years ago lol….). And how could I not fall in love with Spike? He makes everything look cool, like seriously. Smoking looked cool, his fighting was cool, his hair was crazy(but cool), he even wore a shabby blue coat and khaki pants which were cool. He’s deserves #1 on my list just because he was my first, and nobody can take that away. (yes it sounds very sexual, i know)

    2) Hatake Kakashi - Naruto

His voice and attitude stole my heart in the end. I think the episode that did it for me though, was episode 4. The 2 hidden mist ninja’s tried to kill the group and Kakashi fakes a death and ends up clotheslining that one dude and had the other in his other hand. They even put a little top gun rock theme in the background, it was badass. I was sold. I decided to stick with the series and he was always my favorite character from that point on. He never disappointed me with anything he did, if anyone could knock spike spiegal off my #1 spot, it would be him.

    3) Vash the Stampede - Trigun

I can’t tell you how wild a ride it is to like Vash. He’s like the definition of pain and suffering. I love his character. I know a lot of people might be turned off by his goofy behavior(as shown by his picture) but that’s actually one thing i love so much about him. He has fun, but he’s not doing stupid things or hurting peoples feelings to do it. I’d love to hang out with this guy, he’s probably be a riot. Not to mention he’d do anything (even take a bullet) to save my life. Then on the other side, he goes into super depress mode, although its the one time I dont feel like smacking the main character for being ridiculous. Vash plays with your emotions the whole series and makes you feel like shit. But then he gives you some hearty laughs, best of both worlds eh?

    4) Kyon - Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

He had to be somewhere on this list right?? He is the only anime male character that i’ve enjoyed simply from his dialog. He doesn’t do anything special, but he’s just himself. I enjoy his sense of humor and outlook on life. If there was anyone i related to in any anime, he’s the one. Never before have I put an anime on in the background just to hear him/her talk while I did homework. Seriously, this guy is the best nonheroic character ever. Ever.

    5) Archer - Fate/Stay Night

I’m really big on the guys that just seem to not care about anything, hence my top 3 being these nonchalant bastards who end up pwning major ass in their series. Archer was downplayed the entire F/S N series and even when he ended up doing something cool it was downplayed once again. Archer is by far the strongest Servant ever, but they didn’t even play on his skill in the series. His ability is to image or “mimic” i guess anything that he wants. He can create weapons, mimic moves, mimic strength, anything he wants. He’s badass. He also has a crazy ass voice and kind of pushes this “meh” attitude all over the place. If i were a superhero or anything, i’d probably be just like him. I handle power with “meh”ness, but preform when i have to, and preform well. Maybe that’s why I liked him so much.

    6) Kurosaki Ichigo - Bleach
    ichigo.jpg
I couldn’t resist putting Ichigo on here. He’s had some crazy scenes that, even though the anime is super long and ongoing, has pushed him into my top 10. He’s got a pretty good attitude (although i dont like when he gets depressed when he loses) which leads to some pretty stellar moments. When he first got his sword in Urahara’s underground world it was classic. I loved it. Him taking out the cross that Rukia was gonna be executed on was nuts. And you can’t forget how awesome his semi-hallow form and Bankai form are.

    7) Holland Novak - Eureka Seven

He doesn’t have the best attitude in the world, but he’s definately clutch in most situations and usually has a strong sense of loyalty to his friends. I just love his scarf, its pretty badass of him to be able to wear that and not feel embarassed at all. I also like his hair, he has good hair. I think just the fact that he cares so much about his friends (even though sometimes it doesn’t show) puts him up there on my list. When he’s not doing anything important, he’s usually pretty carefree, which when I enjoy him the most.

8 ) Mäes Hughes - Full Metal Alchemist

I was seriously sad when Hughes died. I almost decided to stop watching at this point. Hughes is like………the guy I always wanted my dad to be. Okay I should first say that my dad is a great guy and a very loving person, but i’m thinking hypothetically here. Hughes just seems like the kind of dad his kids would just absolutely LOVE and like he’d always have a big smile on his face or some sort of toy to give to his kids. He reminds me of Leorio on Hunter x Hunter, but Hughes wins my dad vote thats for sure.

    9) Hisoka - Hunter x Hunter

Hisoka was revelotionary for me in anime. He was the first “bad guy” that I ever enjoyed watching. I had this love/hate relationship with his character but in the end I decided that he was my favorite character in the series. As you said, his way of life is just too badass. “I’m bored, what should i do??” How about take out some of the strongest nen users? Sounds good. Everything he does just oozes badass.

    10) Gohan - DBZ

I’ll admit it too. DBZ was the first anime I watched on TV. I usually don’t include it into my list because I never watched it subbed (although i’ve read enough about it to know what happens), which usually takes away from its value (at least to me). Gohan was instantly my favorite character when he started fighting. I felt bad for him when he became stupified, and I got tingles when he went nuts. I always imagined myself being like him, this short kid who just kicks ass (as you know i’m tiny and highschool was rough for me until junior year). Gohan is the shit, I won’t ever deny that.

    1. Haha awesome Top 10 there Rets! :D

I did manage to finally read your top 10 in the post after some goons tried to derail it! Fat chance on that, we love the thread too much.

I liked the variety in your top 10 with some very iconic shounen leads. It’s good to see Spike, Kakashi, Holland, Gohan and Kyon up there definitely. Unlike my top 10, which had not 1, not 2 but 3 guys from Hunter x Hunter (haha).

Your ranking was pretty much on the spot with some really awesome descriptions of the characters. I liked what you did with the Vash one, and the Spike one especially. The Kyon one is a given and so are the rest.

Kudos on another great entry Rets!
