I’m not sure what I find so captivating about this anime, maybe it’s the slice of life, or maybe the situation they’re going through. I don’t really know, but whatever it is they should keep doing it. Watching Asatte no Houkou is like a breath of fresh air in between all the dark and sinister animes or the mindless harems floating around this season.
Since the entire episode was devoted to Shouko, we got to see into her past and why she “hates” Hiro so much. They seem to have had a very strong relationship back in America, and were probably pretty serious. The way their past was flashing before us did a good job of expressing how deeply they felt for each other, and we got the feeling their relationship wasn’t one based purely on lust, but actually on love (heaving fucking forbid nowadays). I think the flashback was my favorite part of this episode, even though there were some of the other scenes were pretty cute/funny.
I’m not sure why I like Shouko so much, but she’s my favorite character right now. How did Hiro put it….She’s strong-spirited, speaks bluntly, and not very cute/likable. Well, she’s alright in my book. I love girls that speak bluntly because most of the time it’s funny as hell, and it usually allows for some good teasing for both partners. Although, she seems like a the type that you’d probably just want to be friends with because she’d tear you apart if you dated.
The snapshots up top are my favorite scenes this episode. The exchange between Hiro and Shouko while they were drinking tea was classic and is my second favorite scene. I love how she kept bringing up how he was a “good-for-nothing boyfriend.” I bet Shouko and Hiro end up together in the end, but it’s gonna be one helluva rough ride, thats for sure. We definately need more interactions between other characters, and not just Shouko and Karada. Once Hiro accepts their situation, this should be rather interesting, especially considering Karada isn’t blood related. @_@

This story has heaps of potential which could definitely make 26 episodes, such a shame it’s not. I like Shouko too but mainly because she’s still being stubborn about not being a kid, yet she’s beginning to show signs of becoming one (on the inside I mean).
I actually disagree with Dan on this. I got a feeling that 13 episodes will capture the essence of the show, bringing less drag that might happen for a 26 episode series. WE can say that H&C did well, but most 26 episode series tend to suffer from a few blips.
I want to remember Asatte no Houkou as a series with intense drama and evoking feelings for the 13 episodes like how it is. So yea.
^+^
13 26 hmm, well I would have said 26 if the pace kept with episode 2, but I was surprised how things came together this episode. I believe 13 episodes can do the trick, but seeing the characters for 26 might’ve been fun ^_^
H&C had THREE main plots to deal with. Of course it could afford to go for 26 episodes. Asatte no Houkou however, only has ONE.
Narf!
HMMMM. I never watched H&C so I can’t really pass judgment, but I do think that this probably deserves more than 13 episodes. Why do animes have such ridged episode layouts? A lot of times when animes go 24 or 26, they have a slump in the middle because they can’t keep up the same pace the entire time. If they reduced the episodes to like, 18(?) that’d probably be perfect for this. There wouldn’t be any need for filler and they’d also be able to advance the plot a little more without rushing it. God knows they don’t want to rush this plot because its saving grace is its ability to keep the viewer entertained in a real life type setting where things happens slowly.
They go through a system of cours( 3 months). Hence why we have Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter season releases.
13 is one cour.
26 is two cours.
39 is three cours. This one is rare, but we have one example here. Death Note, which is 37 episodes.
52 is four cours.
Cheers.
