Tokimeki Memorial - 05 - Sayuri wins I think..

Despite being the source of zillions of cliches and stereotypes, this anime seems to hover around “average” quality. I like the character designs, and the girls all have different personalities, but its failing to excite me. I’m more interested in the outcome and who Aoba will choose than the actual journey to get there.
I’m convinced though, Aoba is a huge pimp. Just by being himself, he seems to have accumulated quite the fanbase. The girls even want him to sit with them for lunch. I count 6 girls plus 2 more show up later. Good show ol’ chap, good show. That’s 8 girls and that doesn’t even include Mina. The side character asking him to do a three-legged race might as well have been a love confession. Grats dude.
I’m not sure if this shows how shallow high school girls are, or if it shows something about Aoba’s sparkling personality (yes I just said sparkling). Teenagers are so fickle sometimes it scares me, but in this case I don’t really care. Aoba isn’t useless, but being “useful” isn’t his selling point. I’d say it’s his warm, loving, kind-hearted, and caring nature. Now, I’m just waiting for the teacher to get up on his nuts.
Well, the plot isn’t that great, but I didn’t really expect much. I’m watching it more for the guy-girl interactions and for its random goofy humor. I want Aoba’s two friends to get girls by the end, that would be awesome. Aoba needs to end up with all three girls, because choosing one is going to be lame, and I’m pretty sure he’ll chose Sayuri (rays of sunlight need to stop following her around already). I guess we’ll see in time.

Amamiya reminds me of Toujou Aya from Ichigo 100%. One of Amamiya’s best friends also looks like Satsuki Kitaooji in the same anime Ichigo 100%.
Hate to spoil your grand explanation of Aoba being a pimp, but that side character who asked him to do the three legged race is meant to be one of the faster sprinters, and after seeing Aoba dodge all those macho men just before, made her think they would be the perfect team to win the race.
I’m interested to learn more about the Evil Looking Professor. The guy looks like Sub-Zero and Sadoko from “The Ring” combined. What does this teacher do that makes him evil?
According to your picture, he seems to be mixing some shit up. I am guessing its some Terrorist Bio-engineered Weapon of somekind. Also, he seems to be in a really Dark Place, already showing signs of a promising psycho scientist.
Darren: Never watched much of Ichigo 100% although I did watch an OVA at one point and I remember something about rain and see through clothes and cuddling naked during a storm in a hut or something…hmmmmmmm
Danny: Was joking in order to prove my point, I should have added a cue to inform the reader, but I’m just lazy as hell.
Darkshaunz: It was some form of “energy drink” i believe, but everyone was super scared of him and they were all hiding behind the teacher n shit. I like him though, they haven’t had information about him but I think it would be cool.
Lol the energy drink was just some sugar water, and apparently that was what caused the huge craters in the ground…yeh I didn’t get it either
Random thoughts on Ep05…
..) Science teacher Yakken Ryuichi strikes again. Using sugar water as a placebo, he managed to make the guys unleash their shounen powers. It’s side characters like him that make me enjoy Tokimeki so much.
..) When Sayuri uttered her line, “Which me?” It made me recall another anime series, “Ultra Maniac”, where the main character, a girl and also a class representative, was always putting on a mask of perfection and it was making her unhappy because it was not the real her.
Hmm… future emo-angst from Sayuri? Screeching breakdowns? Emo-facial contortions? The possibilities are limitless! Of the three girls in contention, Sayuri currently holds the most promise for a Kaede-level meltdown.
..) Minimal Mina makes me a sad camper. Absence of Pan-lady wounds me.
..) Aoba’s teacher is a cutie, which is a refreshing change from the usual oversexualised racked-up stereotypes( see Tokimeki’s school principal).
..) All that running is going to do good for Aoba in the future… enhanced muscles and expanded stamina. Lean mean rocking machine. Now if only he can figure out a way to reduce the cooldown so that he can strike multiple targets.
..) First episode to not feature a “Legend of Amamiya”
Loved how the preview suggested an alternative( and more appropriate) title though… the “Occult of Amamiya”. ^^;
