Snowboarding is not enough these days
Rating: 7/10
I kind of liked the approach they took with this episode, but the material inside of the episode just kinda blew. The X hours ago style usually works when the buildup of events is a little more significant. We didn’t really feel like pieces were finally being connected or anything, but rather just watching a sequence of rather predictable events. If, for instance, the pieces all seemed unrelated, but then converged in the end, THEN I would have been impressed.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I had a sneaky suspicion that the contents of the suitcase was something that wouldn’t be very valuable to the bandits. I mean, they left us hanging from the very beginning, leading us to believe that it was some sort of gun or even cash. I guess it was supposed to be an OMG moment at the end but it just didn’t really have much strength because of the weakness of the entire episode.

Dressing up as a caterpillar apparently helps heal wounds
It was pretty dumb of the writers to make us watch 10 minutes of them doing nothing in a cabin. I did however think it was pretty funny that Panda-kun only had cat food on his person. Really, there’s not much to say about this except they’re retarded for not making a fire sooner in a life threatening blizzard. Oh, and wtf are people doing OUTSIDE and NOT FREEZING when these guys are practically dying inside the house. Makes no sense.

Thats not all he wants to jam into her mouth…
When the best part of the episode is Panda-kun asking Alice if he can cuddle up next to her like a sheep, then we know there’s a problem. It got a nice chuckle from me, but it kind of says something about a serious anime that relies on comedy to save its episode. Still, Panda isn’t the only one who looks at Alice and wants to “jam it in.” I’m kind of sad they slept back to back and not her on his massive, shapely, and comfortable chest. Oh well, if I were a girl, I’d sleep on it.

They’re like, practically blending in with the background
So, I like how the show skipped over an important issue without even blinking. With the new information we gathered at the end (that the bandits were actually from the city) then it should be safe to assume they’re not “bad guys,” right? Well, didn’t they blow one of them up? Should we really be celebrating so soon after killing off innocent city-dwelling bandits who are just trying to survive? I dunno, I found it a little strange that we didn’t even blink at the dudes death, but then we were supposed to feel sorry for the leader as he gets owned by the avalanche.
Too bad this episode had a horrible plot because they didn’t do a horrible job executing it. The art wasn’t horrible from what I could tell (maybe just a few scenes like the shot above), but it just wasn’t an exciting situation. Like I said before, nobody wants to watch people sit in a cabin for an episode, especially when they could be pwning some hardcore snow tanks or something. Ahh, oh well. Darkshaunz said episode 10 wasn’t horrible so that will hold me over until I get through these fillers.

Nice summary, Rets.
The thing I liked about this episode, was not the XTREME SNOWBOARDING (That was hilarious though), but seeing Alice in winter garb and that scene where Panda-kun innocently asks whether he could cuddle with her to warm up.
Episode 9 may not be that impressive (though it does hold its own in terms of maintaining a sombre mood), but episode 10 definitely puts some meaning as to what the anime (well, what the Section stands for anyway).
