Checkin’ out that ass like a true hero

Well, this was a nice little romance story. I’ve been hungering for some Oreld development ever since we caught a glimpse of where he grew up, and this episode “kind of” delivered. I say kind of because we don’t see his past, but what we do see is that despite Oreld’s flirtatious nature, he’s really a gentleman. And as we know, this world is in serious lack of gentlemen in both the Pumpkin Scissors world and the real world. Plus I’m kinda girly and I just love romance stories and this was kind of a romance story so kudos for that.

“Here’s my address *innocent smile*”
As I was saying, Oreld is quite the flirtatious little bugger, but what’s cool about it is that he’s not exactly pushy. From what I’ve seen, he mostly leaves the choices up to the women. That doesn’t mean that he won’t try to influence them with wine or some kind words or whatever, but ultimately he’s pretty gentlemanly. As a character, I’d say Oreld has the most potential to win the show with his personality. Alice is awesome, but Oreld has a sort of charismatic charm to him that makes us love him. I can just tell that they’ll build up his laziness and slacker-like attitude until a certain moment where he’ll probably risk his life to save everyone. You never know.

Panda’s home rocks
You know your life sucks when you got to Panda for relationship advice. I’m not saying that he’s a bad person to have listen to your troubles, but he doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who would offer you much besides an ear. I guess the comment that the war wasn’t over yet sparked the idea which eventually cured the emo girl of her emotional problems, so props to Panda for that. Also, I think it’s cool that we’re finally getting to see the characters interact with each other individually. As a group they’re cool, but we haven’t seen much one-on-one interactions. Oreld x Panda seem to have developed a good friendship in the past few episodes.

He’s so in there
Once she fell against him and started crying I was like “Yeah baby you’re so in there!!” but how wrong I was. The writers even made it fade to the next morning with her opening the window smiling, as if something that happened that night might have sparked it. I kept leaning forward, closer and closer to the screen, waiting for a scene of Oreld waking up shirtless or something in bed but my dreams were cruelly dashed. Oh well, Oreld is still a pimp (and a gentleman!) in my mind, even if he got dumped.
I felt good after watching this episode. It renewed my hope that this anime might salvage itself at some point, which makes me giddy as a schoolgirl. I love the characters, and the setting is perfect, but the execution has just been horrible until this episode. If only they can work in a suspenseful plot with a semi-romantic one, we’ll be all set. I have a feeling it won’t come until we see Alice’s fiancee again, and I have no idea when that will be.

Nice wrap. Also, grats on the speedy catchup, now you only have episode 10 to cover, and I’m sure you will enjoy it, seems like the series has found some solid footing, after some stumbling here and there. Panda’s pretty awesome, I mean he lives under a bridge like a Troll and has like, a Private Cat Army which climbs all over him. He’s like the neighbourhood crazy old cat lady and troll-bum combined (FEAR HIM).
I’m a fan of Oreld’s, he’s always injecting a sense of realism into Alice’s over-zealous proclamations and Panda’s timidness (pre-Lantern mode). Oreld’s kind of the “ideal hybrid”, a bit of wild, a bit of gentleman, but like Rets said , he’s probrably bound to redeem his past wrongs by going out in a blaze of glory.
I’d say Oreld is the most interesting character. Alice is too annoying…
yeah, I understand how alice could be annoying.
