Rating: 8/10 (revising my scores a bit)
Finally an episode about Pumpkin Scissors’ past, which included some things like how it came to be, what jobs they used to be assigned to, and also a small glimpse of character interactions back then. Even though 98% of this episode was flashback, it was done in a decent manner which wasn’t very boring. Everyone loves stories right?!?

So I finally got Bartender to wor–wait what?
I thought it was hilarious that Machs couldn’t hold his booze. I love to point and laugh at those who puke their guts out because of too much alcohol because I never let myself get to that point. I guess I’m an elitist drinker because I tend to drink for the taste (microbrews) and never get THAT drunk, but still this was funny. You really get a sense of friendship between Oreld and Machs, during their everyday encounters at a bar. “Oreld: Lets change our luck and go drinking again! *Cue Machs puking*”

“Nothing beats a first kiss”
It was kind of disturbing to see everyone hate Alice at the beginning. Sure she goes over the top and is borderline annoying at times, but that’s also how she affects people. You can’t really blame them though, because she’s the overzealous controlling type, and both Machs and Oreld should naturally clash with her. We’re just used to them shrugging off her comments and moving forward and it’s strange to see them show hostility towards her.

Yell his name louder because that will ease his pain
So Alice helps Machs defeat the corrupted leader, and in turn he saves Alice’s life. Not a bad story if I may say so, even though it was mostly flashback. It’s refreshing to see that this anime can dish out a good story without resorting to violence or tank-pwning to make up for any lack of plot. To see them all come together in the end was touching in a Pumpkin Scissors sort of way, and I’m ecstatic that we finally got some character development. Then there’s the moral of the day: People can be influenced by those around them, for the good and the bad.

I’d say that nailed the message of the anime down-pat. It was kind of a nice way to consolidate the recent history of Section III altogether, I too was kind of shocked to see Machs and Oreld act so coldly towards Alice. It shows however, that Alice’s zealotry paid off as she bravely marched to arrest her superior (You need balls to do that for sure).
Good episode overall and is keeping the pace of the series as I would expect, can’t wait for next week.
It looks like next episode will be higher quality AND return to the original storyline. Thank god for that! I don’t think I would be able to stand any more of this…
