So we finally get some action, and the filler writers actually managed to work in a suspenseful plot into the show. Like, wow, I actually almost feared for the characters, even though I know they’ll all end up alive at the end of this arc. The music wasn’t new or anything, but the way it was used was reminiscent of the old days. The art quality was also decent, in and out of the fight scenes. I’d rank it up there at about Bleach quality once again. This is hands down, the best arc I’ve seen since episode 136.
I saw a few cool tidbits this episode which are noteworthy. Other than that, it was mostly fighting and chasing, which doesn’t really give me much to talk about.
- During the chase, we see a flashback of an interaction between Temari and Shikamaru(first pic). They’re really pushing for that couple pairing, and frankly, I’m happy. We even got to see a smirk from Shikamaru when he remembered her.
- I’m thinking that Sakura has gotten stronger already, and we might catch a glimpse of her new strength this arc, but that’s just speculation.
- The bad guys all have special equipment that helps them become stronger. We have yet to see this kind of material in the manga, but I think it could open up possibilities for stronger enemies. Personally, I don’t like it.
- Shikamaru uses honey to write something to Shino through his bugs. I thought this was incredibly intuitive, especially for a fucking filler episode. I’m glad they’re finally paying attention to detail, even if it’s just too little too late.
Overall, pretty good episode and I can’t wait for the next one. This arc is HUGE and I have high hopes for it. These bad guys better not go down in a few seconds or I’m gonna wipe out some kunais and boxcutter the writers hardcore. Dear god the ending of this episode was fucking lame though. I really hate the speeches in this anime since they tend to be a little dumbed down in order to reach a broader audience.

An 8.5 for a filler episode. As expected of Retsgip’s Best Anime of 2006.
I personally feel that the show should be renamed to Shikamaru, as that is pretty much all there is to it. I think he saved both the show and manga with his really interesting, intelligent and overally entertaining character.
Also, I do not want to be there when Retsgip is brandishing Kunai or boxcutters or both.

The should really should be named Shikamaru: Shadow Chronicles. He outshines Naruto tenfold, and there’s nothing he can do to stop it. Although, they are saying that Naruto got a lot strong from his training. We’ll see.

I think I gave up on Naruto a while ago, I mean the first few eps were great. Packed with high quality action. However as the story progressed and the fillers came in it quickly made me lose interest

I understand completely, dude. How anyone can deal with these fillers is amazing to me. How I dealt with these fillers is amazing to me. You should pat yourself on the back for even attempting. I will say that episode 217 is better than 216, but I won’t tell you to d/l it ;p Ichigo’s dad ftw!
@TokiDoki: Yeah, it happens. Frankly, I’m surprised the show isn’t dead, but it’s managed to keep the fans interest somehow. I’ve always kind of liked Bleach more except for certain episodes.

It’s true that SHikamaru is ten times more interesting then Naruto. But, i mean If the Series were alla about Shikamaru i think we would be Kinda sick of *”Shadow Imitation” By now.
And yyou gotto love the Hinata, shes Awesome! But Hej, Im getting A bit tired of Rasengan. Can’t we see the frickin’ Huge Frog Boss? I mean, all we ever se is “Bunshin no jutsu” And then a piece of big ass wiping rasengan. But hey, By now we kinda know how the rasengan works…. Give Naruto some more Moves!

I’m not sure what to say about this episode. I endured the fillers all the way till Ep0200+ before I finally surrendered and allowed my inner Naruto-fanboy to quietly sob in some dank corner of my heart.
What brought me back to watch this arc is the inclusion of Gaara. Gaara is like, one of the few characters they can’t really screw up with, or at least I hope so( laughing Shino anyone? *sob* *sob*)…
So I suppose it says a lot when I can say I enjoyed this arc( so far), as opposed to enduring it.

@Jim: Good point. I’d probably get bored of seeing him defeat everyone the same way too. I don’t think naruto has defeated an enemy without using the Rasengan since he learned it, and that’s just retarded. Maybe a few Naruto Combo’s but other than that, it’s all about the Rasengan.
The biggest problem is that they need to keep Naruto weak and struggling to defeat his opponents, otherwise the audience will lose interest. You can only watch major pwnage for so long before you get bored. Thats why we struggle through Naruto sucking, and then enjoy it when he finally wins.
@Skane: I didn’t know you watched Naruto, although you probably watch everything huh? I’m here for you brother, we can cry sob together, arms locked in a knowningly hug, wailing at the top of our lungs. I too can say I enjoy this arc rather than enduring it, and frankly, it feels weird to say so.
I agree that the addition of Gaara was a huge plus side to the otherwise craptastic fillers. I’m so tired of seeing the same old shit, watching the same old ninjas do the same old missions. We haven’t really seen gaara since the rescue mission, and from what I’ve seen, people really like him. They should have worked him in a lot more, but they’re retarded.
@whispy: Shikamaru will only get MORE airtime in the future. It can’t really be helped. He’s super highly ranked in the polls, he’s got a slacker attitude which people enjoy, he wins(or at least doesn’t die), and he’s also the same age as Naruto. The last point probably being the most important because then the writers can do missions where it’s “just the young ninja’s,” and then the kids can relate better. Honestly, I’ve liked Shikamaru since we first saw him, so I don’t really mind all his airtime.
I have a pretty diverse taste when it comes to anime, although it can be said that I am particularly attracted to pathos-elements. One thing I like about Naruto is that people actually die as the plot progresses. Not even the Bleach anime can claim this… yet( excluding flashbacks by the way, and yes, it may seem surprising at first, but if you think back on the non-filler parts of Bleach, the only people that have perished are some wandering spirits from the first arc. Since then, it has been no-one-dies-forever).
The Naruto story is actually pretty dark, and the story reflects that. The death-rate is not staggering( as in every other chapter), but it does happen frequently( if you ignore the LONG and WIDE filler-section).
By far the best arc has been the Haku-arc in my opinion. Everytime Naruto is mentioned, that is easily the first arc that comes to mind. Naruto has immense potential as a Shounen-type anime, but the studio chose to piss all over the content to the point where it barely becomes recognisable. The Bleach fillers at least had the decency to maintain some form of semblance to the original material.
Story-wise, I strongly feel that Naruto is the better of the two. It is only due to the insanity and stupidity of the management that they managed to dumb down Naruto to the point where it becomes associated with Pokemon instead.
No wait. That’s not fair. Pokemon had more class than the Naruto fillers.

It’s like… it’s like they took Lord of the Rings and made it into a Beavis & Butthead clone… or something. I don’t usually bash fillers, and I actually accepted the fillers in other animes such as Bleach, Pumpkin Scissors, D.Gray-man, etc… but it is entirely justified to bash the Naruto fillers, in my opinion, because IT IS JUST SO STUPID! The studio is basically insulting its’ audience with this crap.

Yeah I totally agree. I think my vision has been clouded by the massive amount of fillers and I’ve jumped on the Bleach bandwagon. I still find that I know way too fucking much about Naruto, so that should mean something in terms of how much I enjoyed the series.
In terms of death, hell yeah people die in Naruto. Bad guys, and go–just bad guys, for now. But yes, I will agree that there’s tons of death and the series is actually shrouded in a hidden cloud of darkness. I honestly can’t wait for Shippuuden because the story brings on a much darker atmosphere, especially when we start dealing with stronger enemies.
Not being able to succeed in what was orginally planned, as well as massive amounts of blood and gore. God, I get excited just thinking about it. I feel that, a darker, almost hopeless setting, can create an atmosphere in which main characters really shine bright. Overcoming the odds is just that much sweeter when you’re stuck with shitty odds for so long. That’s what i think at least.

when naruto part2 start everyone will stop complaining about it and everyone will return to say its the better anime as they used to say most people forget what was naruto when it started and they will see what it will be
in fights naruto has great animation it will be great to see action of akatsuki animated
why dont you every week make a comparison between naruto part 2 and bleach episodes to see which is better
and who do you think are more interesting akatsuki or arrancar for me akatsuki they are great

yes and it makes him way more awesome. Remember, even though every drag you take kills you softly, smoking makes your power level and coolness level go up by at least 100 points.
