Black Lagoon: Second Barrage - 24 - Finale and Thoughts

    Darkshaunz fires a farewell round.

    Score: 9.7/10

To the good folks following my Black Lagoon entries, I apologize for the delay in pumping out this particular post. Believe me, I could not have chosen a worse time to go holidaying in Malaysia, I came in right after the Taiwan Earthquake struck, knocking out any decent internet capabilities this country had (along with neighbouring SEA countries). Aside from the wishy washy internet, matters were made worse when I actually finished typing up this final entry on my old laptop and somehow it was lost during the transfer to my new Toshiba laptop (along with the resized pictures and everything), it was irrecoverable from my old laptop as well (which was a reason I decided to ditch the old thing), I’ve also had to reinstall Adobe Photoshop in order to resize the pictures once more. Now that things are in some form of order once again, let’s see what the last installation of Second Barrage has to offer us.

Darkshaunz prepares for the final farewell.

Score: 8.9/10 (animation quality seems to have dipped slightly)

After a long wait for this episode to be released, I felt a slight need to re-adjust myself after a relatively long grace period of badassery. Luckily, the action juice came early with the intense deployment of Balalaika’s men early on. The latest installment of Black Lagoon has everything one expects from the series, with the added bonus of Rock becoming even more GAR than usual. So strap yourselves in for the ride, as the anime takes its final step towards what has been nothing short of an explosive journey, all the way from Raunapour to Tokyo.

    Darkshaunz goes bowling in Hell.

    Score: 9.7/10

It’s pleasing to see that, towards the end of another gun-totting, explosive and pants-on-fire season, Black Lagoon is once again very much looking to end the carnival with a bang. In this episode there are guarantees, they go a little something like this: People will Die, There will be a couple of Pantsu shots, Revy and Gin open more jars of whoopass than we can humanly imagine and there will be a scene which makes the Bullet dodging in the Matrix look like a parlour trick. I’m pleased to be able to continue scoring the series high as it draws close to conclusion, after all, we would want nothing less than a sweet and eruptive memory of what has been a fine season.

Darkshaunz readies for the epic showdown.

    Score: 8.6/10

This episode was pretty much the next stair level from the last, we won’t be spoiled with any combined Revy and Gin ownage till next episode. Still, there were some pretty slick action segments and plot development this episode to keep viewers pining for more. “Tsunderevy” makes an appearance for a glimpse of a moment in this episode too. The starting scenes were nothing short of combatilicious however, so let’s enter the battlefield.

Darkshaunz does some hustling in Tokyo

    Score: 8.5/10

This episode was still excellent in it’s own way. Obviously it was a gear down after the “Tsunderevy” excitement, but it is obviously more of a background episode or a preparation episode for the main action bulk of the arc. Save a Spetznaz raid on a Yakuza office, nothing explosive happened in this episode, but the animation quality, Revy’s badassery and Balalaika’s insane Engrish skills managed to keep my interest.

Black Lagoon: Second Barrage - 19 - “Tsunderevy”

    Darkshaunz coins the term “Tsunderevy”

    Score: 9.8/10

There’s something about this installment of Black Lagoon, I am not sure what it is, but it just delivered that extra “umph” to the usual hoo-ah of blood, sweat and explosions. What happens when you take the essence of Revy’s character, and turn it on it’s head? Something wonderful happens, and the Hottest gun-totting babe this side of Raunapaur has a whole new dimension added to her. Oh, and there’s the whole Engrish bit of the episode too. Revy’s Engrish is really cool and just made this already strong episode, that something special.

    Darkshaunz tries the “Bull Ride”

    Score: 9.7/10

This entry came in a little late this week, due to the fact that I have exams (and will most likely be the case next week as well). The latest episode of Black Lagoon, to put simply, Delivers. Frankly speaking, I will continue scoring this series high because of its fantastic entertainment value, consistency, and just having a charming (yet vulgar) cast of characters. Black Lagoon never tries to overextend itself, it just does what it does, Delivering high octane action every episode with a gorgeous Revy, and boy does it do it well. Also, I have decided to title the Black Lagoon eps according to the actual episode number as opposed to numbering them as they are released. Without further ado, let’s take a gander at this week’s prey shall we?

Black Lagoon - Revy - Tsundere or Not?

Posted on November 10th, 2006 by Darkshaunz - 8,666 Views

    A Question for the Ages.

There’s questions like, what is the meaning of life? why are we here? Does the jeudo-christian God exist? and is there life outside our Earth? All pressing and very mind-taxing questions. Questions which have been debated on, some more seriously than others. But they pale in comparison to the one which is asked in the titular, Is Revy a Tsundere?
