Bleach - 102

I’ll give this episode a decent score because they’re finally picking up the quality as well as the entertainment. I already expected this to happen as we got closer and closer to the final fight, but in all honesty I’m disappointed in where this is going. On the other hand, I’m curious as to how they’re going to resolve everything in an acceptable manner.
As things stand, Kariya has removed himself from the fight, and that’s just retarded. If they can figure out some way to nullify the crest or whatever the hell he put inside of his body, then he can finally fight. I’m curious as to who is going to be involved in the final match up. I have a hard time believing that it will be a 1 v 1 battle between Ichigo and Kariya, but instead maybe a 2v2 or 2 v 1 (since Kariya got uber stronger). Should be interesting.
I’ll admit that the quality of the artwork and the fighting was upped this episode, but the fight didn’t meet my standards (apparently they’re really high nowadays). Maybe it’s because pure archers are deathly boring to watch in a fight. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE archery and I love ranged-melee based characters, but they’re usually nothing too special. Lord of the Rings did a damn good job glorifying Legolas with his archery, but Ishida pales in comparison AND he’s the only archer in the entire fucking show. You’d think he would at least be good enough to aim while moving (I’m well aware how hard this is in real life).
Probably what saddened me the most, is that Ishida didn’t change his demeanor at all, even with his smack talk the past few episodes and his vow to save everyone. He LOOKS like the smooth type and I always expect it to be reflected in his fighting (kind of like Byakuya) but I’m always disappointed by how rough he turns out to be. I’ll say what I said awhile ago, which is that they wasted Ishida’s character back when they made him lose his powers. He’s turned into a little baby and his personality as well as his backbone has gone limp.
I’m having trouble putting into words the real reason why I hate Ishida and also hated his fight, but that’s about the best I could do.
Still, quite an enjoyable episode. I didn’t mind the minor flaws in the laws of nature (mentioned by Danny), but I did notice them. Along with that, there were some minor cop-outs with the plot and the fights, but it hasn’t ruined much of the enjoyment or the story (yet). Ishida’s fight isn’t over yet and Ichigo’s is just starting. Hopefully this is a lead-in episode for some major chaos to come. Lets just hope nothing goes horribly wrong and they can end this arc in a positive fashion.

I liked the point about being unable to fire an arrow effectively whilst moving. Its the same even with modern firearms, there will be an accuracy penalty if you “run and gun”, though it wont translate so obviously with a weapon with a low R.O.F like a Magical Bow and Arrow.
You’d think that since its magical and all, Quincy arrows would have some sort of “Homing” Pixie Powerz. There was a great potential to utilize Ishida, because he’s different from the whole Shinigami thing from the start, but they went too hardcore focusing on just the SS dudes.
Importantly, ending the arc positively is a good start, but ultimately this series also needs to breakout from fillers. Or it will become malignant like Naruto. Haruhi Forbid.

Ishida is still a fucking tard no matter what you do to him. It looked almost like Yoshii had a forcefield or someshit but it was really his shit ass aiming. Like wtf, if you’re ONLY weapon is a bow, at least learn to fucking shoot it. FUCK!!! Lame.
The big difference with guns and arrows is the speed in which they travel. I’m sure you can figure out the rest.
by retsgip November 9th, 2006 at 11:17 pmargh, Ishida’s battle accessory will probably fail, since Ishida isn’t meant to get his powers back by using the battle accessory anyway. He isn’t even meant to gain that shunpo-like ability of his until sometime later in the manga too.
Anyway, Legolas only looked awesome since he was killing hordes of enemies as they came, but if u threw him in a 1 on 1 battle, he wouldn’t be that great either. I don’t think you can do anything will archers except make them faster with flashier arrows.

Archers can be made to be cool.

Ishida should follow the philosophy of Nanoha. When Amy told Nanoha that unleashing her ultimate weapon form could lead to a disaster, did it bother Nanoha?
NAY!
Instead, Nanoha happily listened to Yuuno and smashed the entire package into Reinforce’s face without once questioning her judgement. None of this namsy-pansy, “Oh noes! I might die if I use this!”
That’s why Ishida rocked when he fought against Mayuri, because he went all out. Now? Damn the consequences, man. Just go out, and if the damn thing does explode, at least Yoshi will be near enough ground-zero to get vaped as well.

by Skane November 9th, 2006 at 11:36 pmWell, if Ishida does explode, he is obviously not going to die and I don’t think Yoshii will die from it either. Maybe if they made his arrow so fast that it looks instant. That would be cool. His arrow looked really slow when he went all out the first time in the episode (after sliding backwards for a good half a minute), when Yoshii defended herself with that fan of hers.
by Danny November 10th, 2006 at 12:24 amI agree with skane. The only time Ishida ever shined was when he went 110%. He said “you know what, fuckit, i’m gonna kill you even if I die!” and that commitment is what made him badass. He was true to his cause.
Now he’s like “*cross fingers into an X* don’t come near me! I have special powers!!!1 *shoots arrows over opponents head* I’m serious!” Jesus christ man, you’re a pansy. Put some heart into your fight. I felt like he was running more than he was attacking. PLUS his ability to “master” his strength was kinda lame. I would have rather thought that there was a chance he’d explode, but since he can shoot without exploding, it pretty much nullified all the worry. Maybe he’ll draw too much power next episode and burn himself out.
@danny: That first arrow was really slow, but the cliffhanger arrow seems undeniably fast. you think?
I want confidence from Ishida. He was SO badass when he was confident that he would beat mayuri back in the non-fillers. His very first scene where he shunpo’d above Yoshii was badass, but after that he lost his confidence. MAN, such a wasted character and a fight. It seriously pushes my buttons. I love this show but sometimes they just need to do more.
