The Last Saiyan - This one’s for you, Gohan

Posted on August 18th, 2007 by Darkshaunz - 2,106 Views

Darkshaunz walks down memory lane…In the Future

The word GAR has been flying around quite a bit these days. When I was younger GAR meant “Get a Room”, of course today it means all manner of manly, epic and stoic macho-ness. Derivative of a one “typo” when an anonymous described he was smitten by Archer’s manhood, GAR has been used ever since. Though Guts and “Garcher” have always been contending for the grand title of men amongst men, I always felt that it was a pretty radical tie between Future Trunks and Alternate Gohan. Alternate Gohan is the Gohan version I feel fits best with who he really is. Not the shitty bookworm/girlfriend-entertaining version portrayed in the crappier, later arcs of DBZ. So this one’s for you, Alternate Gohan. May your Masenko beam shine upon future anime generations.

Watching Kanon is like reading Where’s Waldo

Posted on February 2nd, 2007 by retsgip - 2,153 Views

    Redefining the term “snow bunny”

Ever read the book Where’s Waldo, or maybe Where’s Wally? Do you remember how you felt when you played it? That’s kind of how I feel when I watch Kanon (2006). For those of you who have never read these books, hopefully I can explain it well enough to grasp. It’s like that lost feeling that you get when you’ve been looking an object you might have misplaced, where your hopes and dreams are dashed upon the fact that you’ve looked everywhere for said item, and it feels like your intestines are spilling out onto the floor as you cry for help but nobody is listening.

(not quite darkshaunz length but close enough)

Hikkikomori State - The Science of Anime Addiction

Posted on January 8th, 2007 by Darkshaunz - 2,827 Views

Darkshaunz explores the Dark world of the Hikkimori State

In a previous entry of mine entitled, “How Otaku are You?“, I briefly discussed the Hikkimori (and identified them as lvl 6 anime enthusiast). The Hikkimori State, comes with a great deal of misconceptions, stereotypes and miscommunicated concepts. It’s been on my mind a great deal, I decided to endeavour to try and be as scientific and subjective as I can be, so bear with me as I introduce Scientific fact, and anime manipulation as we journey into the psyche of the Hikkimori. Their rise and fall and a commentary as social outcasts, their ascended anime obssession and why anime companies would love for all of us to become Hikkimoris. This is not a reach out to Hikkimoris, not a professional psychological help session, but a observer view of a moderate anime fan (but hardcore eva fan for those who know me) on just why our estranged anime loving brothers and sisters came to be so. Don’t mind the pictures I will be using for this entry, I’ll try to make them as aesthetic as I can, so that some of you won’t fall asleep in the first 2 minutes.

Our Anime Passion - Just How Otaku are You?

Posted on December 21st, 2006 by Darkshaunz - 3,077 Views

    Darkshaunz wants to max level.

The new anime year is upon us, for some there is much rejoicing (especially with all the Lolicious titles coming out January 2007), for others in the community there’s the opportunity to reflect upon the year of 2006, and what delivered and what didn’t. In fact, head over to our friend Danny at Novastorm to Nominate in his not-so-normal awards, also I’ve somehow been selected as a “Highly Professional Judge” (If you say so) at Impz’s THAT entry. But this evening, I decided to start breaking our level of “Hardcoreness” into nice, digestable layers. So join me as I unveil the 7-tiered Otakudom system, and hopefully you’ll be able to identify what level you are.

Code Geass - Great Ass or Gay Ass?

Posted on November 23rd, 2006 by Darkshaunz - 15,183 Views

Darkshaunz checks out what the buzz is about.

Good Afternoon folks, I wish to happily congratulate any Aussies that frequent this blog, for the completion of both High School and Tertiary exams (Party Hard!). So the main dish for today is “Code GreatAss” or as the 4chan hivemind calls it, “Code GayAss”. So which is it? Well, join me as I do a 6 episode wrapup of characters that truly deliver, and characters that are likely to be used as story/plotline sacrificial lambs. Though, I think most would find this Sunrise and CLAMP alliance has “Delivered” thus far (more on the Pizza Hut pun later).

Kanon 2006 - Ugly on the Inside

Posted on November 13th, 2006 by retsgip - 2,510 Views

*lights a match and tosses it on some oil*

I’ve been thinking about this for quite some time now, and I’ve been hesitant to post because this IS a 20+ episode series (real reason–scared of the flames!!!). I can’t accurately judge whether or not my feelings now will be the same in the future, or if Kanon will take an about-face and fix everything I think wrong with it, although this seems highly unlikely. So think of this entry as my tentative feelings towards Kanon and why I dislike it so.

Black Lagoon - Revy - Tsundere or Not?

Posted on November 10th, 2006 by Darkshaunz - 8,783 Views

    A Question for the Ages.

There’s questions like, what is the meaning of life? why are we here? Does the jeudo-christian God exist? and is there life outside our Earth? All pressing and very mind-taxing questions. Questions which have been debated on, some more seriously than others. But they pale in comparison to the one which is asked in the titular, Is Revy a Tsundere?

    Naruto: Female Focus!

Posted on July 24th, 2006 by Darkshaunz - 45,887 Views

    Darkshaunz fancies himself some Kunoichis.

Let’s try and ignore the ugliness of Fillers for a moment. Try and zone yourself out to a time when Naruto actually followed the mangaka’s storyline, a time where the characters all had their normal state of powers and were what they were always meant to be, Kick ass ninjas. The zoning’s not complete though, now envision some of the more awesome female characters in the world of Naruto. Now, your brain is probrably hooked on Sakura, the pink-haired tsundere we were all meant to like. But I say this, get the pink-haired beauty out of your mind’s eye for a second; as I take you on a journey to appreciate the goddesses on the Naru-verse which stand out both in terms of beauty and general kick-assery!
