    Rating: 7/10

    Crows: 1

I’ll be counting crows from now on to indicate the “fanservice” level of each episode. Plus its fun! As for the episode, it was alright. I’ve seen worse, but I’m still ranking it pretty low for an Air Gear episode. Normally they’re all around the 8/10 level, but I think they tried a little too hard to be serious this time.

This episode was way too serious. I was just praising their last episode in my Air Gear 13 blog, saying how good of a job they were finally doing. But nooo, ruin my expectations of many many crows, classic humor, and decent AT action. This whole episode was basically Rika’s flashback. If they had set it up a little better, and made it shorter, I’m sure it could have turned out alright, but oh well.

During the flashback we get to see a few interesting things. For one, we get to see Ikki as a kid and get some background as to why he can “fly.” Aparently he just can, and has since he was a kid. Yup. Amazing I know, but nonetheless true. We also find out that Ikki was given to Rika when he was just a baby, and so now you know why they’re always fighting or teasing eachother.

It’s nice to see Ringo and Ikki together. I don’t really like Simca that much as a person, but I like Ringo and think she would be better for Ikki. I dunno if Ikki deserves her though, she’s probably too good for him. So spoiled. Nice icicle tears too, at least thats what they look like in the picture.

More wheelchair man action! I like the music that’s being played in this scene. Gave it a pretty good feeling of awe at how cool wheelchair man is, too bad he’s in a wheelchair…Poor Ikki always getting into trouble. At least he’s not a perfect hero by any means.

This is the longest flashback ever. At least it clues us in on a few reasons why Rika hates AT’s so much, but also why she’ so god damn manly. For the love of god, make her sexier. More importantly though, we see her relationship with Sora ( who I think looks like a cat). So now we have Crow-kun, and Cat-kun. Awesome. Going back to the relationship, which I thought was a stupid relationship (sorry any fans!), but had its uses and got its point across.

Rika powers up into super saiyan mode, look even her face looks like Vageta or Goku. Oh and btw, lay off the roids Rika, its bad for your health! She’s turning into a rather fierce character when you take this and the previous episode into consideration. She also always tends to kick Ikki’s ass at home too. At least they’re trying to develop the characters a little more, which is good since we haven’t seen much of her yet and it was nice to learn a little bit about her.

So now, with Ikki’s AT’s on the line, they decide to play a game! Yay! It’s the animals (Crow-kun, Cat-kun, and his band of loyal servant dogs) versus the Sleeping Forest in some Frisbee game which I still don’t understand fully. Except the only important thing that ends up happening, is that Cat-kun stares at Rika’s butt. *thumbs up* At least they threw this part in here because it brought some much needed laughter on my end. Oh yeah, nice 101 Dalmatians reference but seriously, where the hell did this come from:

I think this episode was made to be the beginning of a two part episode, but they never told us. Stopping in the middle of their Frisbee match just made me want to watch the next episode even more. I’m really hoping they bring back the fanservice and the laughter. They don’t need to be stupid funny like they were in this episode, but instead make it more subtle.

Even though I thought this episode was boring, I still appreciated the character and plot development. Rika’s true nature is finally starting to show, and just in time for her to make a serious change (mainly accepting Ikki using ATs). I think maybe after episode 15, Rika and Ikki will be on better terms. I’m curious as to how it will all pan out. It could also go to hell and she’ll hate him, but we’ll see.

I’m trying hard not to spoil myself with the manga, even though I heard it was much better (at least in terms of female fanservice). For anybody who likes the girls, I’d suggest trying to find the manga instead of waiting a week for juicy fanservice that doesn’t seem to happen every episode (e.g., this episode).

Side Note: I like really like the music for some reason, dunno why.

    1. you were dead on nice job

    2. glad someone out there has the same view as me, and glad you enjoyed it. ;)

    3. In comparison it captured the serious nature of the manga chapter it was based on. But personally it felt a bit rushed. I think it would have been better had it just took its time.
