This was exactly the type of episode I’ve been waiting for since the beginning of the damn fillers. My only problem with this episode was the way the fighting was drawn, but other than that I was happy.

There isn’t much to say about this episode other than Byakuya is a hot mama, and Kariya is damn strong. I’m a pretty big Byakuya fan so I had a ball with this episode, but I cut down my screenshot amount since they would have just taken up space.

This was a pretty nice shot right here. I love how Byakuya slowly slides behind Kariya after his shunpo, it’s very artistic. In fact, I found this whole episode to be full of beautiful shots which I don’t really do justice at all.

Naturally, Kariya is a formidable opponent, otherwise this whole filler arc would be a waste of space in my brain which could have been used for something more important(like, you know, Naruto fillers…). Kariya’s doll is the wind? What the fuck?! Is that even possible? Umm…cop-out more? I guess they needed to make him powerful…Anyways, Byakuya brings out his Senbonzakura (can this guy ever be ugly? jesus), which by the way is SO overpowered for not being a Bankai it’s not even funny.

Aparently nothing works on Kariya and they end up uselessly testing eachother for a few minutes to no avail. They pretty much reach a stalemate which is cool because that means more fighting, but Ichigo shows up. At this point I was like WOOT 3-way FFA Royal Rumble! Where’s the cage and the chairs?!? Did I say I love Ichigo’s Bankai? Yeah, I do, but he needs to have more in his bag of tricks because he’s kind of bland.

Oh yeah, so what I didn’t like about the action scenes, was how they bounced around everywhere. It was very reminiscent of DBZ and people were like shunpo-ing around being invisible to stop for a second to clash swords or whatever, and then disappear to somewhere else. I LOVE when they actually animate fight scenes. It makes things feel a lot more believable andrelatable, but I guess this is cool too. I would have just enjoyed it more if they weren’t invisible 3/4ths of the episode.

So um, the next episode will probably be better than this one. Byakuya goes Bankai, Ichigo is already Bankai, and Ishida is on his way to the fight scene. It should be an interesting 4-way FFA, but also I think Ichigo and Byakuya will actually work together for a change. This could be a heart-whelming episode where Byakuya learns to be human and they team up to defeat the evil Kariya…no I doubt it. If anything, Kariya will run away using his lame-ass wind and vow to defeat them at their next meeting. He’ll probably say something like: “I have deemed you all worthy opponents. It will be a pleasure destroying you at our next meeting…*poof*”

Anyways, it was a nice episode. My only beef was with the animation of the fighting. Other than that, I loved the useless action. Its pretty much why I watch this anime since it’s not like there’s going to be any love stories or anything. We’ll see!

    1. Nice writeup Rets.

This episode definitely looks very exciting, Shunpos are wicked, as you so rightly mentioned, they deflect each other as they slam bodies at mach-speeds. Ninja anime use this cinematic effect a lot as well. DragonballZ obviously too (hell even the energy bombs were deflected for great justice!).

The next episode will probrably more senseless action, and I am excited to see your screens of the 4 way Battle Royale! I want to see Ishida go Batshit Quincy Insane on Kariya, because Quincy attacks are also cool.

      Cheers,
      Darkshaunz

    2. yes, a very good ep, much better than 96 -__-

    3. I think so too. 96 was alright though. At least they’re advancing the plot FINALLY. Can’t wait for more fights though. Mmmmm.
