Animeblogger.net IRC- Bloggers’ Mecha Showdown 2006

Posted on December 18th, 2006 by Darkshaunz - 7,161 Views

This week, we bear witness to the Greatest Showdown, Ever.

Here at Retsgip anime blog, we are proud to host Animeblogger.net IRC’s first ever Blogger Mecha Showdown. What started out as an innocent discussion about a Code Geass frame (I’m looking at you, Danny!), turned into a plan of mecha proportions. Ladies and Gentlemen, between these few individuals, they have initiated the gears of war, Battlesuits representing their respective blog sites have come here to duke it out amongst themselves. Your votes will determine which mech wins the title of Mightiest Blogger mech of 2006 (Poll is on the RIGHT SIDEBAR!-Thanks Rets <3).

    Naruto - 213 - Ocarina of Homosexuality

Sakura looks like a man…sooo, what else is new?

    Rating: 6/10

Since the fillers are boring me to a whole new level, I figured I’d do something a little different this episode. I’ll give a paragraph or so of my thoughts, then I’ll get down and dirty in a sort of parody using screen caps from the episode. Funtimes ahead, yeah?

    Tokimeki Memorial - 09 - Beach tribute

Posted on December 16th, 2006 by retsgip - 1,127 Views

    Rating: 8.5/10

Even though it was a generic beach episode, I thought they did a damn good job of it. The exciting random nature of the show reasserted itself and did a pretty good job of not being over the top. I liked how everyone randomly showed up at the beach the exact same day that Riku and Kasuga were going on their beach date, because it allowed for a lot more possibilities in terms of humor and drama.

Disclaimer: Theres quite a few thumbs below, so it may take some time to load. Darkshaunz wanted pictures, so I tried to deliver.

Lovedol - 05 - Failure at the beach

Posted on December 15th, 2006 by retsgip - 1,344 Views

    Rating: 4/10

Hoho! Who’s up for a little bit of loli action on the beach huh? Too bad the quality was CRAP and it completely ruined any possible awesomeness that could have occurred. Take a quick peek at the caption of the song in the picture above, “Keep on Dreaming.” What the song is really trying to convey is the fact that this anime should keep dreaming because it will never achieve anything except failure. Funny because that’s all I foresee in “group three’s” future as well…Subliminal messages from the song writers, ftw.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - Reflections on a Legend

    Darkshaunz on Neon Genesis Evangelion

With the new Evangelion remakes coming along in 2007, its going to be a sort of awakening for Evangelion fans all around the world. Some, like myself, have been waiting for the “second coming” of the series, some would have just thought, “Hey, I remember that anime”, and of course it wouldn’t be the same without the critics (who have been lurking in the shadows waiting to lash out at Evangelion once more, we love you guys). Sharing some thoughts about Evangelion with our friend Danny (thanks for sending the Cruel Angel Thesis tracks) over at Novastorm and some of the folks on AB IRC, I thought it was time we reflected upon the Series and the movie: End of Evangelion, and why it made the footprint as a cult hit in modern anime.

Bleach - 107 - Kariya uses ‘the force’

    I lol’d at the artwork

    Rating: 7.5/10

So this episode was alright, but I was extremely put off by the huge flashback/recap of the bounto past (for the 100th time). Even I noticed the filler-esque ups and downs of the artwork. What the hell? I felt like NHK took over the animation for this episode. Ichigo’s animation was all over the place, and it seemed like his limbs weren’t really attached to the rest of his body with the way he moved. I don’t know, this is a filler episode, but they can at least try to do a good job.

    Ghost Hunt pwns hardcore

Posted on December 13th, 2006 by retsgip - 1,676 Views

If you haven’t checked out Ghost Hunt, I strongly suggest you do so the next time you have free time and bandwidth. At first the show seems a little like a romantic comedy, but give it a few episodes and you’ll see that it’s much much more than that. Anime News Network files it under: Comedy, Drama, Horror, Mystery, Psychological, Supernatural, and I agree for the most part. If you still don’t find it interesting once you get to episode 5, you can come call me a dick and I’ll accept any punishment you wish to bestow upon me.

Pumpkin Scissors - 10 - A view into the past

Posted on December 12th, 2006 by retsgip - 2,024 Views

Rating: 8/10 (revising my scores a bit)

Finally an episode about Pumpkin Scissors’ past, which included some things like how it came to be, what jobs they used to be assigned to, and also a small glimpse of character interactions back then. Even though 98% of this episode was flashback, it was done in a decent manner which wasn’t very boring. Everyone loves stories right?!?
